Job Description

We are seeking an experienced L2 Linux System Administrator with basic hands-on Nutanix experience to support, maintain, and optimize our enterprise infrastructure. In this role, you will focus primarily on day-to-day Linux OS operations, performance monitoring, and incident resolution, while performing basic VM administration tasks within our Nutanix virtual environment.

You will serve as an escalation point for Level 1 support while collaborating with L3 Engineers and Systems Architects to ensure high availability, security, and operational stability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and manage Enterprise Linux distributions including RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Rocky Linux.
  • Manage users and volumes (LVM), apply kernel updates, and troubleshoot OS-level issues.
  • Perform basic hands-on Nutanix Prism Element operations including VM provisioning, modifying, cloning, power management, and resource monitoring.
  • Handle L2 ticket escalations within established SLAs.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for OS-level issues, system bottlenecks, and service disruptions.
  • Execute routine OS patching, software updates, and kernel upgrades following change management processes.
  • Monitor and verify scheduled backups using Veeam, HYCU, or Commvault.
  • Execute file-level and VM snapshot restorations and disaster recovery testing.
  • Write basic-to-intermediate Shell (Bash) and Python scripts or use Ansible playbooks to automate administration tasks.
  • Apply security hardening standards, manage SSH access, configure firewalls, manage SELinux/AppArmor, and remediate OS vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with L3 Engineers and Systems Architects to ensure high availability, security, and operational stability.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or Rocky Linux.
  • Proficiency with LVM, systemd, SELinux/AppArmor, cron jobs, user/group permissions, and network configuration.
  • Basic hands-on familiarity with Nutanix Prism Element for day-to-day VM tasks including creating, cloning, restarting, and monitoring VM health.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN tagging, network interface bonding/teaming, SSH, NFS, iSCSI, and firewalls.
  • Experience with LVM allocation and resizing, block/file storage management, NFS/iSCSI mounts, snapshotting, and backup integration.
  • Working knowledge of Bash scripting, Python basics, or Ansible for system administration task automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
  • Nutanix certifications will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks independently and work as part of a team.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call rotation and periodic off-hours maintenance windows.
